Vocational Expert (VE)

Vocational Experts are often used as witnesses at disability hearings. Their job is to determine whether a claimant can perform previous work, and if not, if there is any other type of work that the individual can perform.

In other words, Social Security will try to match you up with any possible job to prove that you can work. The job may or may not be practical or even local—it is simply hypothetical.

If you are concerned about the possibility of having a Vocational Expert at your hearing, or want to prepare for the possibility you should contact your disability representative. He or she will be experienced with such situations and should do the preparation work for you.
